Indenture to Jessica Jane Rae Griffin [legal document], 1862.

Assignment by Bohn of Stationers Hall Court, Parternoster Row, London, publisher, to Jessica Jane Rae or Griffin, widow of Charles Griffin, and to the other executors of Charles Griffin, of his quarter share in the bookselling and publishing partnership of Griffin Bohn & Co., set up 1 Jan. 1861. Signed by Bohn, Jessica Jane Rae Griffin, William Collins (publisher, Glasgow), and William Ambrose (writer, Glasgow). The document gives background details, including: the partnership between Bohn and Charles Griffin (also described as publisher, of Stationers Hall Court) was set up with £5,000 capital from Bohn and £15,000 from Griffin as minimum; the partnership was for 20 years, but Griffin died 5 Aug. 1862; and the business premises were in Stationers Hall Court, where Richard Griffin & Co. formerly traded, and was owned by Charles Griffin solely. In addition, Bohn declined the option he had of buying his partner's share upon his death; the executors therefore agreed with Bohn to buy his share for £5,500.
